Try {#reverb10}

Prompt: Try
What do you want to try next year? Is there something you wanted to try in 2010? What happened when you did/didn't go for it?

As someone who loves to journal (admittedly on and off) I have always wanted to try my hand at bookbinding.

I would also love to learn how to work with leather.  There's something so intoxicating about the smell and feel of it and I'd love to know how to create items such as leather journals and cuffs.

I have searched for classes on both of these but there just doesn't appear to be anything suitable in the area, I'll keep looking.

One other thing I'm hoping to try next year is creating more sculptural artwork.  Those of you familiar with my current work will know that I love to create texture and dimension in my pieces but I'm trying to come up with ways where I can create more visible depth.  I'll need to experiment with different mediums to see what will work, but that's where the fun comes in.

What is it that you'd love to try?

I’m participating in a 31-day blogging challenge called #reverb10, responding to writing prompts that encourage you to reflect on the past year and consider hopes for the coming year.

  1. It's getting really close to 1 am, and my eyes are bugging out as I look at my screen, but I just wanted to come by and wish you a very Merry Christmas! I hope it is a season bursting with love for you. Happy Holidays!

  2. Oooh, I love the notion of bookbinding! I have a couple of small handmade journals made by a friend who learned it a few years ago, and they're beautiful... I wonder how much you could learn from the internet without having to go to a class?

I picked sewing for next year just 'cause I have a few projects that I've kept meaning to take on. It'll be the end of procrastination.

  3. Leather, yum. Bookbinding, that would be an awesome thing to learn.

I, too, would like to learn to sew. Or make jewelry. Or learn how to do metal stamping.....

The biggest obstacle to any of that is my motivation drive...it's usually close to empty:)

I hope you're enjoying your weekend!

I do have a couple of bookbinding and leather books but I'm a visual person so often need to see something being done to get it.

I hadn't thought about utube videos though so that's something I might have to check out, thanks for making me think.

    Have fun with the sewing.

  5. What I really want to try in penning a book of short stories completely by hand...but I don't know if I can do it; word processing is so much easier. Maybe I should give it a go anyway.

  6. Stereo, I say go for it. It is always easier to use the computer but there's something so beautiful about hand written words.

  7. Sounds like great things to work on. I am going to try to not take on anything new, which in itself will be new for me. I need to add some space into my life.
