12 Things {#Reverb11}

Prompt:  12 Things

What are 12 things your life doesn’t need in 2012? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 12 things change your life?

1.   Bugs

I almost had a heart attack when I moved from the UK to the US and saw the size of the bugs out here.  There are times when it feels like I'm living in the Land Of The Giants!  I thought they were bad in Connecticut but they are even worse here in Virginia.  I react really badly to mosquito and spider bites so at the very least I'd love to eliminate those two.

2.   Humidity

The humidity here in Virginia can be brutal during the summer months which makes it impossible to enjoy being outside during that time.  Unfortunately I can't control mother nature.

3.   Static

During the colder, dryer months I'm like a static magnet and find myself getting shocked over and over again.  It's extremely painful and it doesn't help that most shop doors have metal handles!  If anyone knows of any good static tips (other than static guard) I'm all ears.

4.   Clutter

Some people have this ability to clear out the clutter and live in such a tidy organized space.  I'm not one of them!  There are times when I feel bogged down by all the stuff that I've accumulated over the years and even though I do a mini purge every once in a while I feel I need to be more ruthless in clearing out the clutter.

5.   Negativity

I've said many times that I'm a glass is half empty type of person.  Most of the time I see that as being realistic but it does err on the sign of being negative.  I need to adopt my husbands more positive approach to things.

6.   Self Criticism

All to often we are our own worst critics.  I need to find a way to silence that inner voice when it's overly critical and not constructive.

7.   Housework

Oh how I would love to eliminate housework.  That's not going to happen any time soon but there are things I could do to help cut down on the amount of work I create for myself.  Like hanging some laundry straight from the dryer to avoid having to iron it rather than letting it sit there forever getting all wrinkled.

8.   Candy

Now I'm not saying that I'm going to give up all candy altogether but I am making a concerted effort to reduce the amount I eat which can only be good in the long run.  Quite how long this good intention will last though . . . . that is the question.

9.   Cold Calls

We receive an insane amount of cold calls and random calls from debt collectors chasing people we've never even heard one.  I have to giggle each time a debt collector calls for Jesus and pronounces the name in the biblical sense.

10.   Inertia

Illness has had me flat on my back this year which has left me feeling weak and unfit. I've really missed my nature walks so my plan is to get back outside, camera in hand, and try and build my strength and stammina back up.

11.  Pain

Most of you will know that I've been suffering with  some pretty excruciating nerve pain the past seven months.  My body doesn't seem to respond well to medication but through a process of elimination I'm hoping that we've found some meds to help alleviate the pain.

12.  Doctors Offices

Over the last year I've been inside more doctor and specialist offices than I care to remember (why is it that they are usually decorated so badly)?  I'm hoping to eliminate these visits by getting better this coming year.

What are some of the things you don't need in your life?

  2. Oh, I can totally relate to most of the things you have mentioned in this post!
Humidity used to get to me as well when I lived in Brisbane, Australia. We moved out there from England too, and the bugs are huge. The first bug I ever saw in OZ was a large beatle and it was so big that you could hear it scraping its wings along the ground when it walked! ;-D

Clutter. We have a room full of boxes that have not been unpacked since we moved back to the UK. ;-(

Negativity and Self criticism. Like you, I'm always hard on myself.

7 to 9 on your list, I can also relate to!

I hope the New Year brings you more happiness and better health.
Have a lovely Christmas, Kathryn and
    take care.

    Best wishes,
    Jo. x

  3. Thanks Jo. I've always been scared of visiting Australia because of the bugs. You have a wonderful Christmas too.

  4. Kathryn,
I didn't realize that the bugs we grow here in the US are so much bigger - perhaps I need to go to the UK where the bugs are smaller since bugs creep me out :)

I try to limit myself to three Dove dark chocolate pieces a day but oh, it is a sacrifice.

I too hope that you will find relief from your pain.

  5. I'm with you on some of the items you list, but, without those nasty insects, we would surely miss a great photo op, and static at night makes some fun sparks ;)

What do I want to eliminate? How about 15 pounds?!

Second would be insomnia, third would be low wage, fourth would be self doubt, fifth would be artists block, sixth would be my sweet tooth, seventh would be spots, eigth would be lack of courses, ninth would be adding to my limited language base, tenth would be tense neck, eleventh would be wrinkles and finally reality tv

  7. Okay, let's make a deal - more bugs my way, means less for you! Although I just want to photographe them, don't want any creepers! haha

I need less humidity, definately less booster club duties for sure, less procrastination on some projects I've been wanting to do, I could surely use less attitude from my teenagers, haha!

I sure hope you have less pain in 2012, you certainly deserve that!

(trying to catch up slowly, I have been just spinning in a hundred different directions in the last week!)

  10. did you ever try acupuncture for your pain....i kind of swear by it.

and what....give up candy....no way...it's impossible. been there, done that.....give up something like the daily newspaper...now that's easy :)

and here in wisconsin we have really little bugs and no humidity...okay fine, i'm totally lying, but it's a nice place to live :)

  11. wishing for you that they all come true...except the candy one, of course :)
i have serious clutter issues, too, although an 1100 square foot house means it can only go so far...

  12. Many of the things on your list ring true for me. Thanks for your honesty. I admire how authentic you are and how generous you are in sharing things with us here. I hope that 2012 is pain free and full of happiness and continued success. Here's to your good health!

  13. Yeah. I'd like to get rid of spiders too. But I got a great gift for my birthday this year.... it's this long rod with a trigger kind of thing at one end and long plastic bristles on the other end that open and close when you pull the trigger.... it's a spider catcher! And it doesn't harm the spider, and I don't have to be anywhere near the critter to catch him! It's brilliant. I almost want a spider to come in, just so I can try it out. I should be careful what I wish for.
Wishing you a year of love and healing, my friend. xo
