What have you let go of this year and how has it affected you?
This year has been great in terms of artwork sales. I've seen many of my favorite pieces head out of the door but feel as though I have gained so much in the 'letting go'.
There are certain pieces I've created that I feel a strong bond with in some way. It might be because of the amount of time I spent working on a piece, it might be an emotional connection, it might be the color combination or the subject matter.
Seeing people have an instant reaction to something that I've created . . . knowing that they love the piece as much I do . . . that it will find a spot in their homes and give them many hours of pleasure, fills me up in ways I struggle to put words to and inspires me to continue creating.
It is so powerful to know that art you have created is moving out into the world, to live with someone else. This must be so gratifying for you to know that you art has connected on that deeply personal level with people.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered how artists felt about pieces they sold. For a writer, we may sell a book or poem but we can still enjoy it in printed form. A piece of art leaves and can never be enjoyed in it's original form. Your explanation of your relationship with your pieces goes a long way helping people who don't create art understand the relationship between artist and piece.
ReplyDeleteBrenda, it is extremely gratifying especially as I came to creating art later than most.
ReplyDeleteRoxy, thanks for the lovely comment. I was finding it hard to articulate the feeling when a piece sells but glad it made some kind of sense.
Sometimes so hard to let go of what we've worked so hard on...but then - the joy of knowing that someone else loves it as much as us? Priceless!!!
ReplyDeleteO know that feeling, it is the same with my jewelry, but it makes me happy when someone comes back and says how much they love their piece!
ReplyDeleteBoy...that IS the best feeling in the world!!! I agree!!
