Adapting To Change

Being drawn to nature and wildlife, Winter is one of the hardest seasons for me photographically speaking.  It's easy for me to be inspired during Spring when new life is beginning, during the Summer months when everything is lush and green and insects and wildlife are plentiful and during my all time favorite season of the year, Fall.

Winter, on the other hand, with it's palette of greys and browns leaves me feeling a little lack luster and uninspired.

Then I realized that as each season changes I need to adapt, just like I change a lens or the aperature on my camera I need to change my attitude.  It may not be my favorite season.  It may not be as easy to find things to photograph.  I may not want to venture outside as often as usual but there is still beauty to be found through a camera lens if I take the time to look.

  1. i love winter scenes...all that snow/white feels so fresh and clean. i suppose that's easy to say when i don't have to deal with the gloom and greys like you do!!

  2. Kathryn,
For me, it is also harder to shoot during the winter. Not only is there the bundling up in layers of clothing but there is the cold and the wind and the wet. Snow I don't mind - it adds a different element to my shots, transforming everything. What is hardest are the gray skies where everything turns flat and dull. Today we had sunshine - oh, what fun, even in winter.

  3. I do understand. I find the other months much easier to be inspired. But then, I started paying more attention to late afternoon lite through the bare trees and morning sunrises. That is when it is clear ... I'm looking forward to snow (which I usually don't) to practice with the color "white"!

  4. I can so relate to what you are saying, Kathryn. Winter is such a challenging time photography-wise. But you did well with this capture. :)

  5. This winter is proving to be even more difficult - without the snow. But - you've done so beautifully - captured the 'color' of the colorless season. Lovely image!

  6. I too find winter very challenging. Generally we have snow and that can add a bit of intrigue but the stark pallet is hard to adjust too. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.

  7. Cameras seem to find interesting and unexpected things when the flowers and bugs are sleeping.
    It's good to see you!
