Every year I get a little jealous of those who are able to come up with a creative list of resolutions. Other than the fact that I hate lists my mind typically goes blank and I honestly can't seem to think of a single worthwhile thing to write down.
This year Alyson Stanfield of ArtBizBlog made my life so much easier by creating 12 Artist Resolutions that she openly invites people to steal.
ARTIST RESOLUTIONS
Resolve to try a different color.
Resolve to experiment with a new media.
Resolve to take a class, read another book, watch an art documentary.
Resolve to expand my knowledge of art.
Resolve to share my art with more people.
Resolve to write more about my art.
Resolve to find my own path.
Resolve to stop whining about not having enough time.
Resolve to say No to those things that are not important to me or that get in the way of what I want to be.
Resolve to stop fiddle-farting around on the Internet or with the TV remote control and start dedicating myself 100% to my life’s work.
Resolve to stop playing it safe.
Resolve to take risks.
In fact if you head over to Alyson's blog you will find these resolutions listed in a free pdf available for download.
If you're the creative type and don't already follow ArtBizBlog I can highly recommend it. Alyson is so generous with her advice on the business aspects of being an artist.
So tell me what are your resolutions for the coming year, creative or otherwise?
I love the 'stop fiddle-farting', I am so guilty of that one!
ReplyDeletegreat list my other favourite from this year is Neil Gaiman's wish for this year http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2011/12/my-new-year-wish.html
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Kathryn - I'm with you. I'm terrible at making lists of deep thought and emotion - my mind goes completely blank - afraid I'm going to give the "wrong" answer. So I'm very happy to "steal" Alyson's list. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful list. I am thinking if I take one each month I just might accomplish a few. Thanks for sharing and you are right Alyson has so many great tips and ideas. May you have a blessed year.
ReplyDeleteI'm not good at resolutions either...so I resolved a long time ago not to make them. I sure do see a lot of bloggers making them though. Thanks for the stolen lists. At least it gets thought rolling round in my brain. Love this image-the greens are so lush and I love a strong leading line.
