Feeding Time

I saw the most beautiful female cardinal this weekend.  Would you look at all those gorgeous feathers.

But my heart still belongs to the Tufted Titmouse, they have this wonderful ability to make me smile.

They've been enjoying the squirrel food that I put out.  I have to laugh each time one of them carries away one of the monkey nuts.  Half the time the nut looks bigger than their head!

Love this contemplative pose.

The chickapees were out too, singing their cheerful song despite the snowfall we had.

Always so delicate in their choice of food.

The wood peckers decided to join in the fun, although they're all about the suet.  First the red bellied woodpecker . . . . .

. . . . and then the downy.

I could sit for hours watching them feed.  Especially on a cold snowy day when it's good to be bundled up nice and warm inside.

Did you have a good weekend?

  2. These are beautiful photos. You know me, the last one is my favorite. I love the irony of the birds enjoying the squirrel food. Here it's just the opposite - the squirrels eat all of the bird food. I'm envious of the variety of birds you have at your feeders. Here it's mostly common sparrows and an occasional finch or chickadee. Last year we had several cardinal pairs. I wonder, because there is virtually no snow here, if they are finding food at lots of other places.

    1. This winter has definitely been a strange one. My husband was disappointed because he went out duck hunting a couple of times but not many of them have chosen to fly as far south as us yet.

  3. Kathryn - again and again, you amaze with your bird shots. The contemplative pose is my favorite - there really is a feeling of quietude in that shot. Beautifully done.

  4. Kathryn, I'm so jealous of your bird shots - are these all out the window? Just wonderful, and I don't think I would leave that spot all day, I could watch them really all day long.

And, well, you know how MY weekend was! LOL I guess I should get off the computer and follow doctors orders. ; )
