Serpentine Dreams

fear forked omens
constrict the mind
extricating sinewy senses

shedding and emerging
intuition strikes
an undulating consciousness
coiled in serpentine dreams

Want & Worth

you wet your whistle
with worry wrought words
while wading knee deep
in whirring wretchedness

wrestling the wreckage
of wild, wilful warnings
waves of weeping
wield you worthless

a web of wasted wishes
weave withering wormholes
through the who's, what's and why's
of want and worth
                            until . . . . .

whimpering and wounded
wit and wisdom win

Horsepower

the sign says "Stop"
but momentum can't read

fury
the catalyst that knows no restraint

impulse
driving the spur in its side

Nature Keeps Its Own Time

the sky pays no attention
to speedometer or time
noise as stark as white
static clouds unmoving
nature its own time keeper

Pollen Count

pollen counts
not on fingers or toes
but in sneezes and wheezes
itchy eyes and streaming nose
the 1 . . . 2 . . . 3
of bearable
           sufferable
                     and downright wretched

I am thinking of switching blog platforms because of all the bugs I seem to be experiencing here on Blogger.  Any advice from all you blogging veterans?

Weekend

This weekend we worked in the yard.  My husband did a bunch of landscaping while I planted up some pots and window boxes.  It feels like its really coming together.

I've been working on my own little spot which is tucked into the corner of our house.  I'm hoping to plant some clematis or jasmine to climb up behind the bench.

I like to sit here in an afternoon with a mug of tea or a book of poetry and contemplate my navel.

Monday we had mulch put down, I love how it always gives everything such a finished clean look.

At least until the dogs decide to dig around in it!

Or eat it!

Talking of the dogs . . .  we even managed to fit in time for some training and fun time at the dog park.

I've been feeling a bit out of it lately.  Our pear tree is in full blossom which is wreaking havoc with my hay fever.  With a sore throat and watery eyes it feels like a horrible cold.  Still I can't complain.  It's nice to finally have some good weather.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Self Portrait

confined by ailments
that relinquish nothing
but cadaverous bones
known to rattle
a downbeat melancholy
when fiercely shaken

a reflection of a petrified past
rooted
invisibly present
toasting monotonous minutiae
with a glass of half empty
to a flower on a wall

at home in the shadows
that know not black or white
but a world of grey
a spectrum of darkness and light
where pain and patience are relentless adversaries

sucked weary by energy stealers
subtracted to introversion
the depression of footprints
discernible only to those with a skilled eye
who witness the invisible turned visible

Chicago: Part III

On our last day we decided to visit both the Shedd Aquarium and the Fields Museum.  They were incredible and I'd love to revisit them, especially as you could spent a whole day in each one alone.

The jelly fish exhibit was fantastic, almost made me like them!

I love seahorses and found myself drawn to them several times while we were there.  They are the most beautiful creatures and have an air of magic to them.

Unfortunately I didn't get many photos at the Fields Museum but it is phenomenal.  I can't recommend it highly enough.  We got to meet Sue, their resident T-Rex, and I just loved all the bones, mammals and totem poles they had on display.

There were so many highlights over the course of our anniversary weekend but the best would have to be the poem that my husband wrote for me.  I should mention that when we got married I gave him a silver pocket watch with the words 'hand in hand as we walk in the white sand' engraved on it.

Hand - together warmed by loving touch in the mittens
In- love from a shake through the years with increasing smitten
Hand - with a ring, look at me, with blue eyes filled in emotion
As - I look deep within, first time, an inkling more than a notion
We - one from that moment, relentlessly, lovingly build the flame
Walk - the winding path through valleys of joy, hills of pain
On - towards future unknown but built together and united
The - love shared anticipation,  like a child again, excited
White - has started but will be complete with bond even stronger
Sand - of time, my love, for you today, everyday,  will last longer

by my wonderful husband, Bryan Dechairo

Chicago: Part II

On our second day in the windy City we headed to Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) where we were able to see views of Chicago before the fog rolled in.

We also ventured out onto the Sky Deck.  I suffer with vertigo so the only way I could do it was to not look down.

We couldn't go to Chicago without checking out the Art Institute so we took a rather chilly bike taxi there.  It is huge with a wide range of things to see, well worth the visit . . . .

This guy made me laugh, especially when you look at the size of his manhood!

. . . . . and we just had to stop by the 'Bean' for a second look.
