Scintilla Project: Life

Prompt: What would it have been like if your life had turned out the way you wanted when you were a kid?

I recall wanting to be a prison officer or a farmer . . . where those ideas came from I honestly don't know.  I was never the tough strong type and I've been known to pass out when blood and needles are involved so I wouldn't have lasted one minute inside a prison.  As for a farmer . . . all those early mornings, hard work and animal poop . . . I don't think so.

In truth I think those were jobs I came up with because everyone seemed to have it all figured out and I felt like the only one who didn't.  I didn't know what I wanted to be, what direction I wanted my life to go in and still don't.  The difference is that now I don't stress about it as much.  There are days when I feel guilty, when  think I could have done better, been better but if just one thing had been different I wouldn't be where I am now (with the man that I love living in a beautiful home ).

  1. Oh I LOVE the picture :)

It is funny the things we think we want to be when we grow up as opposed to the things we really become when we grow up, lol!!! :)

I applied to join the WRENS at 18 - silly really as I have had a life long aversion to following too many rules; I thought it was a way to escape and see the work and get paid for it I guess, lol again :)

    Have a lovely day, cheers, T. :)

  2. Sounds like you are just where you should be. I always wanted to be a vet but after years of crying when I even thought of my animals getting sick, I realised that I'm not cut out for that. But after nearly a lifetime of good experiences, I think I'm right where I should be now, with my son's young family, with three little children to love and a lovely home.

  4. You have love and beauty.
Those two things sum up all that is essential in this life!
(at least, I think so ;)

  5. I feel the same way. My career in Information Systems wasn't something that I dreamed about as a child - growing up I wanted to be a teacher or a librarian. I just fell into it and turned out to be good at it. Had to laugh at your aversion to animal poop - that's one of the main reasons we don't have any pets. :)

    1. Maybe that's why animal poop came to mind because we do have pets. It's bad enough with the four we have let alone anything bigger!

  6. Wow I love this image. A farmer. Hmmmm. I don't know. I'm glad you're content with where you are and who you're with. I am not. It took me a long time to figure out I wanted to teach music....and that was my passion. Now that I'm here in real estate, realized I hated it in 2007 and yet feel trapped. I wish I could figure it out-and make enough money to pay the mortgage too.
Have a happy weekend. Hope you're feeling pretty good.

  8. Such a great post. I wanted to be a singer and dancer as a child. (I have poor rhythm, tend to walk into walls when I daydream, and my singing is only good in the car with the radio on full-blast).

I've worked a lot of different jobs and sometimes I think I should have started writing sooner, had kids sooner, so I especially love this line: "There are days when I feel guilty, when think I could have done better, been better but if just one thing had been different I wouldn't be where I am now (with the man that I love living in a beautiful home)."
    Ditto!!

    1. I know all about walking into walls and singing in the car. :0)

I do wish I'd discovered art sooner but other than that I'm happy with my lot. Glad to hear you are too.
