remnants of a bad dream hold me prisoner
choking sobs from my subconscious
the suffocation of emotion in a body
aware yet fully passive
suppressed fight bears heavy
spilling over into my waking state
rationale and logic unable to shake
the remnants of last nights dream

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like something has to be letting go...Nice. Love the picture :)
DeleteIt was inspired by a nightmare I had, one of those that feel so real upon waking.
Deletewow, very powerful Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteWow...strong writing there, you created an imagery for me! Lil scary too....
ReplyDeleteThanks Aditi, it was inspired by a nightmare that I had.
DeleteI always hate it when bad dreams continue to hang around even after a person wakes up! Your poem evokes lots of feelings.
ReplyDeleteI hate them too Mary, they can seem so real that it's hard to disassociate yourself from them.
DeleteAny nightmare that lingers like that is bad. Even scarier is that the worst nightmares are those that starts during day ... really a frightening thought. The worst nightmares are those that are for real..
ReplyDeleteThose that start in the day . . . . and those that are truly real give nightmares a whole new meaning.
DeleteI hate nightmares ~ Good thing I forget my dreams so easily now when I'm awake ~ Hope you have a good week ~
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible when those nightmares linger even when you try to put them out of your thoughts. Very powerful poem wrought with the emotion nightmares bring.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's definitely the emotions that come with them that make them hard to shake.
Deletedef our dreams can carry over in our waking...the fear, the anger....oy...had a really nasty nightmare in my teens that stuck with me all these years....can still remember it vividly....
ReplyDeleteI rarely remember my dreams or have nightmares but when I do I am shattered the next day.
ReplyDeleteYou describe the feeling very well.
I know what you mean about being shattered the next day.
DeleteYour words are so very evocative and emotional - I can feel my heart beat pounding as I try to recover from this nightmare.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brenda. I hate waking with a pounding heart beat that takes a while to steady into its normal rhythm.
Deleteremnants… rational and logic have a fierce competitor in fear!
