on a path to nowhere
I sit, arms crossed
gazing downward
at strewn puzzle pieces
of whys and why not's
a puzzle with infinite sides
numerous parts missing
for life doesn't come in a box
with a picturesque image
and all the pieces
Linking up with Poets United and Imaginary Garden With Real Toads.
Sometimes a path to nowhere can be liberating. I love this. May I just pop into this picture for the day? Lovely, Kathryn! Simply LOVELY!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracy, liberating . . . I like that.
DeleteOh, it's a tough path we blaze in life. Sometimes it is all we can do, to sit and ponder our direction for a while. This was gorgeous! And that photo is amazing!
ReplyDeleteSo many times the trip to find our destination is more fulfilling than the end of the trail..
ReplyDeleteReally fine poem and picture
So very true.
Deletesmiles...and there are plenty of those questions we will never have answers or truly understand how the pieces fit in the whole until much later...life is def not easy to figure, but we stumble forward....
ReplyDeleteI love this metaphor of life as a puzzle without all the pieces and with no picture to tell us how to put things together. We have to do the best we can to build a life that works for us. Your poetry always makes me think.
ReplyDeleteI love metaphors, its like they tell their own story.
Deletefor life doesn't come in a box
ReplyDeletewith a picturesque image
and all the pieces
...ain't this the truth...felt.
These puzzles when connected together make our life wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo very true.
DeleteYou have pieced together the perfect fit of picture and poetry. I will hold this image a long time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great compliment Michael, thank you.
DeleteThis is a sublime poetic observation about life and your picture compliments the words perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry, I love combining words and images.
DeleteI think that is part of the puzzle, to figure out it all fits together ~ Wishing you a good day despite the chilly weather ~
ReplyDeleteSo true, life may present us with all the pieces; but we have to find a way to put them together in a way that works well for us. We may not be on a path to nowhere, but perhaps a somewhere whose destination we don't know but there are many interesting stops along the way.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely makes for some interesting stops. :)
DeleteYou mentioned Poets United, but hadn't put a link in Poetry Pantry; so I linked it there for you.... you can delete this comment if you wish. Hope you are having a happy new year so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, I submitted it a couple of times yesterday but my computer seemed to be playing up so I guess it didn't go through.
DeleteI LOVE this! "for life doesnt come.....with all the pieces."
ReplyDeleteLove the comparison of life and puzzle.
ReplyDeleteThanks :0)
Deleteexactly so… really love this!
ReplyDeletegreat write.. with a theme that I think everyone faces at different times...
ReplyDeleteThanks Robert . . . there's comfort in knowing we're not alone.
Deleteabsolutely love this poem...I have felt this way many times.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love it when people relate.
DeleteNo it doesn't..life being a puzzle so true...and its edges are constantly changing..Great write!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie :)
Deletehow true!!..
ReplyDeleteOh now what a great descibtive piece. Next time I sit down to plan I'll reread this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect reflection and one we should not be too hard on ourselves. Puzzles often come missing a piece - at least in my case. Once I had my daughter fashion a piece to fill it in. No one noticed it but me. :) I hope to be back soon to see what else you have been up to… Holidays have me a bit behind. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteLife is a wonderful (if oft confusing) puzzle - but sometimes I do wish the picture was on the box...
ReplyDeleteHave a brilliant New Year - and may finding the pieces come easy.

"For life doesn't come in a box".....sometimes I wonder why the hell not (ha), but then again I guess we couldn't plan our own path to somewhere. You are on a roll here friend!
ReplyDeleteLove this, words and image. It captures where I've been lately.
ReplyDeleteIt seems many of us experience this at times. Hope you're doing well my friend, I miss you.
