the moon harbors
slivers of secrets
as seagulls cries
pierce our conscience
and drifters, beached
fog-bound
under gravitational pull
of sandblasted thoughts
tumble
like unpolished stones
inland
dappled light rides
through canopies of ancients
weighted, earthbound
mourning the loss
of rugged wisdom
skyward limbs trembling
with the totality
of our ignorance, indifference
our own stupidity
This is just gorgeous as well as thought-provoking, Kathryn. Is the image yours?
ReplyDeleteThanks Victoria, yes the image is mine (two images overlaid). It was inspired by my recent vacation.
DeleteLove the blue imagery, verses of moon's secrets & dappled light & title ~
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was inspired by the full moon that shone over the bay when we were on vacation.
Deletei love the sandblasted thoughts esp... i bet the moon could tell tons of stories... good ones and those where ignorance stood in the way of a happy ending...
ReplyDeleteThis really pulls at my heart. The loss of rugged wisdom, in so many things.
ReplyDeleteHaunting! I love this phrase - "dappled light rides".
ReplyDeleteour indifference and ignorance will def be the death of us, you know.....
ReplyDeleteIt seems that way . . . I can be indifferent and ignorant myself, will have to try and change that.
DeleteI love both your poem and the painting, Kathryn! I wonder whether you were inspired by your trip.
ReplyDeleteYes Gabriella, this was definitely inspired by my recent vacation. :)
