Face Your Fears - Portrait Series

I finished a new piece of artwork just before leaving for the UK but have only now had the chance to take some photos.  It's titled 'Face Your Fears' and is a new addition to my self portrait series.

I find that snakes often appear in my dreams and seem to represent fear or a warning of some kind which I why I chose to incorporate one in this painting.

  2. This is a super powerful piece. I like the small "spots" on one side, and the red lines on the other. I like this knowing what it represents to you. It helps my perspective on what I know is incredibly painful for you. I don't have dreams about animals, but when I do layered pieces, birds often make it into the mix.

Forgot to thank you for thinking of me with a special postcard from the UK. Gorgeous golden light in each image. I know you were thinking of me in that selection. You're awesome.

  3. I totally agree with Susan that this is a super powerful piece. I had a dream about it last night actually. I must connect with it on some level. It's hauntingly beautiful.

    1. Jane, I hope it didn't give you nightmares. I've been enjoying exploring the portrait series . . . wonder what direction I will take it next.

  4. How interesting that you have dreams with snakes. My dreams always have a constant in them as well... water. I go back to the same lakes and rivers in my dreams, and they feel like powerful places. But sometimes water takes the shape of ski hills and even waterslides in my dreams. But you know what I just realized as I type this? I have never had an ocean dream. What is up with that?!?!?! lol. (not that I can currently remember anyway)

  5. I dream of water too ... in fact it is a very rare dream that has no water in it ... the ocean, vast and wavy ... at times enormous.

  6. WOW - so powerful and evocative. It reminds me of the journey you endured with your health last year. I hope it was healing..to express yourself this way.

    1. Being able to express myself through my art has been a big thing for me, especially with the more personal form it has taken this year.
