Photo Heart Connection: January

This image I've chosen as my photo heart connection represents what January was all about; frigid temperatures that 'hurt', snow and ice that made venturing outside treacherous and grey skies that hung heavy.

It meant that this past month has been mostly spent indoors, bundled up in blankets drinking steaming hot mugs of tea.  My cats and I spent many hours staring longingly out of the window; them at the birds, me for a glint of sunshine to warm things up.  One of us was disappointed.

That said it has allowed me the time and space to read more (one of my goals for the year).  So far I've devoured Introvert Power, Probable Future, The Noticer and a few others whose names evade me right now.  What did your January look like and what book are you reading?

Linking up with Kat for Photo Heart Connection.

  1. Sorry you didn't get to go out much, January's can challenging can't they.

I read "living History" by Hillary Rodham Clinton, had it forever and only now getting around to reading it, but it was so interesting to me.

    Have a lovely weekend, T. :)

  3. January here was frigid and snowy ... :-(
I haven't read in such a long time but I've been attempting to organize my craft room so that I can start some projects without hunting for what I need.
    Have a great weekend

  5. Sweet shot. We haven't had a lot of snow but there were a lot of bitter cold days. I haven't had much chance to read, though I did pick up a few books yesterday in hopes of getting some reading in. Hope February brings you milder days.

  6. Yes, I spent much of the month indoors - very little in the way of photography happening around here. I always am reading - making trips to the library every week. And I've been doing a lot of clean-up/clean-out/re-organizing which gives me such a accomplished feeling :)

    1. Very little in the way of photography this end too which has been getting me down. I need to find out where our local library is. Oh and clean up and clean out . . . I need to do some of that too.

  8. What a sweet photo! I'm rather longing for a cat of my own, but, alas, there are allergies in the family that make it impossible. Like you I'm longing for milder weather, but I read all the time year in and year out in any case! This morning I finished a wonderful pictorial history of this area, and started on another Maine book - a novel called The Weir, written in 1943, which I was glad to find at the library.

  9. We have had the bitter cold and our two cats have stayed in, too. They would peak out the door like they wanted to venture out, then quickly change their minds. I read a lot, too, but took so few photos. Kind of weird. But I did enjoy JK Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy" and her mystery "The Cuckoo's Calling".

I love the image of your sweet kitty looking out the window.

  10. I have been reading more and hopefully making some progress. Right now I am reading The Sparrow by Mary Dorian Russell, not really my genre for reading but it is for February book club and it is good to stretch yourself once in awhile.

  12. And here in the UK we have had endless rain. I started a Still Life Photography course so I am able to do it from my dry and warm kitchen! A really lovely PHC and your cat's colouring is wonderful.

  13. I've totally fallen off the reading train at present. My bad. Trying to get outside more, despite the cold temps. Have an awesome Sunday Kathyrn!

  14. I've been outside more than in, but that's easier in the warmer climes I'm in right now. I've been reading The Shallows, about how the Internet is affecting us all..Lovely image of your cat!

  16. What a beautiful image to convey both the comfort and warmth of indoors...with the longing to be out there. A perfect antidote to what was an extraordinarily cold month of January!

    1. Thanks Marcie, comfort turned cabin fever. At least the rain came today and washed away much of the snow although we're set to have more again soon.

  17. Such a fabulous image to go along with your words of being inside and looking out. I love the monochromatic feel of the whole thing... winter white. I'm always reading, mostly fiction, but this month I also wrapped up a photography book, God is at Eye Level: Photography as a healing art, by Jan Phillips. Thanks for sharing in the Photo-Heart Connection!

  20. What a lovely soft, furry friend to keep you company during these cold months when it's so good to stay inside with warm drinks and a good book!

  22. I love, love, love this photo. How perfect that your cat is white to add to the idea of snow. It's just a darling image. I'm glad you were able to make good use of your cabin bound state. Each time I sit down to read (which I seem to procrastinate forever) I fall asleep. I guess it's a relaxing thing for me-and therfore something I feel I should save until all the "have tos" are finished.
Your books sound very interesting, at least by title. I am in the midst of the Game of Thrones series. Each book is about 1,000 pages long. I'm just beginning the 4th. This is a complete miracle as I normally don't allow myself books more than 300 pages-those take me at least 6 weeks to read. That said, this multi-thousand project I've been on started last March. You see how that goes.
Happy day to you my friend. I hope you are feeling pretty well and that February does not overwhelm either one of us with snow again. (meanwhile 6-10" is threatened tomorrow). Grrrrrrr.
