Role Play

I fall into you
      each night a surprise
            never knowing what role I'll play . . . . .

hook in fear of the ticking clock
goldilocks in search of 'just right'
or perhaps the princess & the pea

                                    . . . . . if I'm unlucky, maybe all three

Linking up with dVerse where the prompt was to write about a common object.

  1. Delightful reading. It is indeed a kind of surprise of which realms we will explore every night. Well-penned.

  7. Insomnia is not fun! You have managed to convey this in a subtle, yet effective, way Kathryn.

  8. Smiles. I have a similar relationship with my bed...wondering if the night will bring sleep or....
    And then there's the dreams!

    1. It seems insomnia is a friend these days . . . and dreams, don't get me started.

      Sweet Dreams.

  9. You know, I really think it is nice that each night is a surprise! It would be quite uninteresting if each night was just the same as the one before. I say....be thankful. Smiles.

  10. I love my bed and it is here my imagination runs loose!
As a (very) occasional insomniac - I can relate to the ticking clock and oh how it stretches those eternal hours.

  11. Laughing, involuntary role play. Sometimes it's fun. even when it's not there are always useful lessons to be learned.

  13. My bed does that too, I never know what sort of sleep I'll have. I just know it won't seem as good as my husband who from all appearances could sleep on a ship deck in a gale!

I enjoyed this, went back for a couple of extra reads. Well done.

  14. smiles - I like the effect here - there are many ways a bed can welcome one. A cool poem.

    1. Thanks Abhra, I often think my bed has something against me. Doesn't like me to sleep.

  15. HaHa! Perfect! The stories all too often creep into this intimate relationship of me and my bed. It should be just comfort! And yet, the fantasies I have spun while lying there! Great illustration.

  17. Sleep seems like it should be so very easy - just shut your eyes and wake up 8 hours later. But oh so very tough when it doesn't happen like that - when you can't turn on off your brain and rest won't come. And it all becomes a fight, a struggle instead of a letting go. Beautifully written.

    1. Brenda, you describe it so perfectly that struggle. You should try your hand at poetry some time, you have an amazing way with words.

  18. Love that you've chosen the bed as the object. This is a place where so much happens or doesn't happen. I am guessing you have some insomnia at times. That's when the bed can be our enemy.
