Bound Tightly Open

the end of beginnings
the beginning of ends
observer of the insipid
of disingenuous truth

piercing introspective
rattling nerves
as key
to a lockless room

a fingerprint
in a sea of hands
pained
by the strength of scars

label adhered wounds
full-mouthed and slipping
stitched up , threaded
bound tightly open

  1. I love how you have used contrasting words here.. bound - open keys to a lock-less room.. that mystery and ambiguity is a lot like how life exist... in life between constraints.

  3. Such an excellent paradox as title, Kathryn. Your poetry reads like abstract art and always gives food for thought.

    1. Thanks Kerry . . . I wrote the title a long time ago but hadn't been able to incorporate it into a poem until now. Love how you link my poetry to abstract art.

  4. Stunning. I've known people who made me feel this way, to be sure.

  5. Ouch. I squirm at the vulnerability of not being able to shut it all off and leave. A hand rendered useless! My right hand has three dead fingers--so I took in the illustration on a personal level. A power to perceivecan be a Cassandra curse if action is prohibited.

  10. Beginnings and endings, as you so beautifully demonstrate Kathryn, are bound together. This poem lingers...in its pain. Not all endings are great, not all beginnings are fine.

  16. Yes, sometimes those old wounds are fastened so tightly they stay open. I love the words here, the contrasts and the profound thinking they inspire.
