you on one side
me on the other
one looking in
the other looking out
one pane of glass
one percent of DNA
one moment in time
all that separates us
looking into your eyes
seeing my soul
reflected in yours
I'm turned inside out

ReplyDeleteAh, sometimes at the zoo I make eye contact with those beings on the other side of the glass....and it is quite a humbling experience!
ReplyDeletemmm i am always moved by the animals...in particular their eyes...and so small a difference makes all the difference eh? which side of the glass we are gone...and sadly so small a difference often seperates us as humans as well....
ReplyDeleteyes. i actually cannot go to the zoo, it breaks my heart.
ReplyDeletei love this.
Oh yes so little difference really between us and yet so different being on the inside or the outside
ReplyDeleteIncredible how some animals may seem so 'human' to us. I like that you chose to write from their perspective.
ReplyDeleteYour poetry skills just get better and better - so impressed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brenda . . . it's a journey.
DeleteTerribly cruel..to imprison creatures for our entertainment. Thought provoking poem.
ReplyDeleteI really love this perspective especially the comparisons between DNA.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a geneticist so maybe that has something to do with it. :)
Deletei'm always amazed at how "human" their moves are... and it's a thin line for sure
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done and with a great last stanza, loved this.
ReplyDeleteSo nice view :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed sentiment on how much we share with other living things on earth.
ReplyDeleteNature's ways are truly amazing...love this perspective..
ReplyDeleteThe picture with your words - can't help but smile at the picture, but then wish he was free to roam on his on!
