Avoidance

we talk of weather and of rain
so British of the two of us
there's something else we should discuss

when did things become so mundane
relationships should be more fun
we're not that old, we're still so young

the loss of love, the sheer distain
that's not the way that things should be
please tell me that you agree with me

avoiding all that's clearly plain
I evade your questioning gaze
no longer loving you 'always'

lets not go down memory lane
rehash what wasn't mean to last
lets leave it rooted in the past

we talk of weather and of rain
when did things become so mundane
the loss of love, the sheer distain
avoiding all that's clearly plain
lets not go down memory lane

  1. ugh...i would not last very long in the mundane...the just passing of time together...no longer in love....the avoidance and not talking about it...yeah...it would not last long...

  3. Well done! That's a really tough form.

  4. Perfect content for this form as the spare five liner says all that will be said and the extra two lines emphasize it.

  5. I think we are blessed with life and fun moments are strewn all over the mundane existence..you've
used the form very deftly...nice lines...

  6. You got there!
I stumbled over the letter -t- [guess where :-) ] and was amazed at what the dictionary told me. You live and learn.

    1. It's funny because the spell checker said I had the word 'distain' wrong. Like you I did a search because that's the way I've always spelt it and was surprised to find that there were two spellings of it with distain most commonly used in poetry. A learning curve for the two of us. :0)

  9. This piece is so very true of many relationships, and you have written with both regret and understanding - no good playing the blame gain when things have reached a certain point.

  10. When things go mundane, its easy to get into the blame game ~ Relationships should be more fun, I agree

Admiring the lovely form, hey you are spreading your wings, smiles

  11. Brilliant use of form in this and, of course, a message so important.

  12. This really tugs at the heart strings... and you did a great job with the form.

I think talking of weather is so much more important than we allow for, it's part of the bond of humanity, it's the gauge of our moment... but sometimes it would be nice have a bit more fun than that :)

  13. Oh, this is sad really. I hate to think of how many people have this as their reality. And that they can no longer say they love 'always.' How do things manage to change like this? Why? And who did the changing? Unanswerable questions, I know.

    1. I was with someone for 9 years before reality hit. We shouldn't have stayed together so long but if we hadn't its likely I'd never have met my husband. :0)
