Studio Time

Why is it that new ideas and insommnia seem to dance hand in hand into the night while most normal people are tucked up in bed fast asleep?  Come the morning I'm usually so bleary eyed and sleep deprived that I can't even remember my own name so I've learnt to write them down when I can.  Many will not come to fruition but it's fun to look back at my doodles, sketches and notes when I'm struggling creatively.

I'm sure many of you will look at my workspace above and gasp at the clutter but I have to let you in on a secret . . . this is actually pretty tidy for me. I'd love to be one of those people that can work on just one thing at a time and have a nice clean space but it's never going to happen. What can I say, I've learnt to embrace it.

I did manage to finish the new painting I'd been working on. It's a 24"x18" mixed media piece that I've titled 'Life Force'.  I'd love to know what you think . . . . good, bad or indifferent.

What fun things have you been up to this weekend?

  1. Great idae to get up & jot down ideas as they come to you- even if they are in the middle of the night. I think all of your artwork is beautiful.. I like the colours & the lines in this one.

  2. I rarely get much sleep at night. This is when I work the most, and take cat naps during the day. I know that bleary eyed feeling.

Your work space does look very tidy to me. I work on several pieces at once, and have pearls, shells, findings, and sketches all over my work table. It's hard to be neat when you have ideas popping.

I do like this new piece, and it totally depicts Life Force, and is aptly named.

  4. I have trouble thinking in a space that has too much clutter, but lately have been trying to embrace the clutter and artist within. It's a battle for an anal-retentive Virgo perfectionist. I am a work in progress. Perhaps I should take a cue from the life force within.

  5. Gasp at the clutter? Not in a million years. My first thought when I saw that pic...this is the workspace of an active and creative artist!!

    1. I actually wrote this post while I was sleep deprived. It made me giggle to think it came across that I write my own name to remember them . . . I'm not that bad. Oh and they are incoming. :0)

  8. Love your new creation -- reminds of the Goddess images I've seen, but obviously, with your own signature twist. :)

  9. Love it! And my studio is always the same, I have given up trying to be otherwise, this is who I am, how I work.

I think the eclipse really affected people, everyone I talk to has been having insomnia!
