Photo Heart Connection: August

This beauty came and sat on our deck the other day and I almost fell off the sofa when I spied it.  I usually see hawks on telephone poles while I'm out driving or perched high up in distant trees but rarely have I seen one so close up.

Unfortunately my camera was in another room and when I moved to retrieve it, the hawk flew off.  My heart sank until I realized it had flown onto our other deck and I was able to get two fumbled shots before it flew away.

Many believe that Hawks signify awareness, perspective, insight, truth, strength, initiative, decisiveness and creativity.  I'd like to think I can tap into all of those.

I've also been enjoying the visitors to our feeders this past month too.  They each have such unique characteristics and I never tire of watching them.

  2. Beautiful, and it sure doesn't look like a fumbled shot to me...I always love your visitors to the feeder. And, I would love to tap into those qualities too!! xo

  3. What a great shot, Kathryn! What a gift from the Hawk to you--just the sight of it. Awareness, perspective, insight, truth ... You have all those things inside of you. The Hawk just wanted you to see it, too!

  4. Isn't it wonderful to have these feathered visitors?
I had been longing to see hummingbirds this summer. They never came.
I put up a finch feeder ... and they DID come!
    Love your shots!

  5. Our feeders are busy this year, too. The hummingbirds, though, have taken over this morning. I just love it. Some American Indian tribes see the hawk as the messenger, inviting us to pay attention to what's happening in the moment.

    1. Hummingbirds are so beautiful. We have some visiting us at the moment although the darn raccoons keep emptying the sugar water out each night. Love the hawk as a messenger.

  6. I'm just getting lots of sparrows, a nuthatch and a cardinal right now. Too hot I suppose.

Great capture of the hawk Kathryn. Ours are usually on poles or flying away from me. :)

  7. I just love your bird images. They've made me become so much more aware and appreciative of these creatures. Harbingers of hope and reminders of what is both strong and fragile at the same time - if that even makes sense.

  14. For a fumbled shot-that's pretty awesome. Visiting you not by chance I'd say, but more as a reminder of the qualities you possess that sometimes you've forgotten. Nicely done.
