Spring

wash of grey paints us somber
strikes the only light we see
rumbling growing ever stronger
awakening sleeping beauty

mud baths for the brown turned green
rain-lashed windows hammered hard
defenses washed streaky clean
growth that's measured by the yard

saturated soaking wet
wind that thrashes at the door
this is not the time to fret
for Spring is here, that's for sure
