The Curse

awash on a crimson tide
flooding blockades
of plugs
pulled in spasmodic rhythm

we tear at the rags of time
swirling in a vermilion vortex
of protracted months
cramped into moon cycles

until ablated
obliterated
your discharged
period(.)

    1. Thanks Brian . . . I was reading how menstruation is still a taboo subject for so many which strikes me as odd in this day and age.

  2. Wonderful take on the prompt. Great subject, and not to make a pun really, but great flow here--

  4. This isn't funny in the least, but I laughed anyway. When not called curse, we called it friend. I love the drama in your poem.

  5. I've been there, all the way and still the curse lingers. Such 'taboo' subjects have a place in women's writing, I believe.

  6. I have to say that I don't miss the visit of that particular monthly friend in the least. :)

  7. I agree with Brenda, I'm well rid of that particular curse, although others take its place: not the least of which is poor memory.
Good for you, though, writing about this "taboo" subject.

  8. Great take on curse. With all the personal commercials on TV it is a wonder anything is taboo still. I saw a commercial on FB (probably not shown in US) of a lady in the kitchen fixing a cup of tea, grabs the bag, realizes it is a tampon and looks down in bewilderment.

  14. This is clever......my poet friend in Tofino once read a poem about menstruation at a gathering and had the place in hysterics..................I dont think I have ever laughed so hard. I LOVE being able to laugh at such taboo topics.......it is all just life. I must say tho, I was grateful for my hysterectomy and to be done with it.

  15. The curse....I was freed from it by a knife...Hysterectomy became my best friend after suffering years being plagued by Ruby

    1. I had an ablation instead of a hysterectomy . . . love that I no longer have that nightmare to deal with.

  19. Indeed something I'm unable to really comprehend.. that monthly cycle -- all those precautions --- and the moon-cycle changes... very good use of colors...
