At The Feeder

After the huge wet flakes of snow yesterday I made sure to restock the feeders.  The birds didn't waste any time coming to visit.

Snow Blizzard

You're probably as sick of hearing about snow as I am of seeing it.  I honestly thought we were done until a big snow storm blew through here yesterday.

I had to feel sorry for the birds who were battling strong winds and the cold just to get some food.

Thankfully I'd filled the feeders just the day before so there was plenty to go around.

At least the sun is out today and the snow has melted.  I'm desperate to see some color after all the monochromatic browns and greys of this oh so long winter.

Bird Watch

There continues to be a lot of activity at the bird feeders, especially after the ice and snow storm that came through here the other night.  I'm used to snow but the freezing rain and ice, not so much.

The starlings are back en mass.  They make so much noise and are quite the bully's.

It's a good job we have a number of different feeders otherwise I don't think the others would get a look in.

It doesn't look like it's going to get above freezing for the foreseeable future.  Isn't it funny how we miss the sun when it snows yet come the middle of Summer we often complain about the heat and humidity?

No White Christmas

Well it doesn't look as though we're going to have a White Christmas.

I can't say I'm  not disappointed but I am welcoming the warmer weather.  I'm sure my feathered friends are too.  What's the weather looking like in your neck of the woods?

Hangout Central

We've had a few rainy days this past week which have lent themselves to curling up on the sofa with a book and a blanket.

I'm currently reading Poem Crazy by Susan G Wooldridge, have any of you read it?

I've been topping up the bird feeders and there's been quite a buzz of activity lately.

Sunflower seeds are a particular favorite . . . . .

. . . . . as are the peanuts I have out.

Mrs Cardinal has been putting in quite a few appearances too.

I remember seeing a cardinal for the first time in Connecticut, such a pretty sight, especially against the white snow.

This is the first time I've put peanuts out and I'm amazed at how long they last.  Seems the birds love them too so I'll definitely be restocking.

The red bellied and downy woodpeckers are frequent visitors and love suet.  Unfortunately they have been harder to photograph because the suet is situated by a window with lots of reflections.

Hope you're all having a great week and aren't too stressed out by the pending holidays.
