Poem Published In Poetry Nook

The third volume of Poetry Nook has just been published and I am happy to announce that my poem 'Memory Keepers' can be found on page 48.  I can't wait to delve into my copy and read the other poets contributions.  I would like to extend a big thank you to editors Frank Watson, Tiara Winter-Schtorr and contributing editor Erny Herawaty.

I am also currently working on my own book of poetry which I plan to self publish in the New Year.  More information coming soon.

Hangout Central

We've had a few rainy days this past week which have lent themselves to curling up on the sofa with a book and a blanket.

I'm currently reading Poem Crazy by Susan G Wooldridge, have any of you read it?

I've been topping up the bird feeders and there's been quite a buzz of activity lately.

Sunflower seeds are a particular favorite . . . . .

. . . . . as are the peanuts I have out.

Mrs Cardinal has been putting in quite a few appearances too.

I remember seeing a cardinal for the first time in Connecticut, such a pretty sight, especially against the white snow.

This is the first time I've put peanuts out and I'm amazed at how long they last.  Seems the birds love them too so I'll definitely be restocking.

The red bellied and downy woodpeckers are frequent visitors and love suet.  Unfortunately they have been harder to photograph because the suet is situated by a window with lots of reflections.

Hope you're all having a great week and aren't too stressed out by the pending holidays.

Game Over

game
in his sights
but there's no board
just the symbolic throw of a dice
at the D r A w, quiver, r e l e a s e
nine points to one, lowest score wins
in a ravine at dusk
[GAME OVER]

Got To Love Them

There are times when they drive me insane like . . . . .

. . . . . when they bark at everything that moves

. . . . . when they bring me dead mice and birds

. . . . . when they eat poop

. . . . . when I let them out before bedtime and they think its a game

. . . . . when they eat things they shouldn't, socks, toilet paper, kitchen roll, pens etc

. . . . . when they know a command but chose to ignore it

. . . . . when they walk muddy paws all over our cream carpets

. . . . . when they smell of wet dog

. . . . . when they circle like vultures an hour before dinner time

. . . . . but the truth is, I wouldn't trade them in for anything.

New At Dyche Designs Studio

I can't believe that in just one week my mother will be here from the UK.  It will be so good to see her.  I've been busy getting the house ready but have still managed to find time for some painting.  I have lots of different pieces in different states of progress but this is one that I recently completed.

Stealer Of Time

a grotesque predator
stealer of time
turned uglier with sound
holds you captive
with bolts of searing pain

a survey of your armory
reveals no effective defense
against blazing hot talons
that claw and drag
                            pierce and stab
their torturous ascent

"it's all in her head"
shatters the silence

lying twisted and contorted
coiled in the shadows
the irony splits you open

Backyard Birds

I'm driving myself crazy with all the things I need to do, so much so that I find myself running around in circles not getting much of anything done.  Ever find yourself doing that?

Anyway, it has been a while since I've shared any 'bird' shots so yesterday I decided it was time to get reacquainted with my feathered friends.

Many of you will know that one of my favorites is the tufted titmouse.  It's something about their ability to rock that Mohawk of theirs that always makes me smile.

That doesn't mean to say I don't have love for some of the other guys that stop by . . . . . like the black-capped chickadee . . . . .

. . . . . cardinals and finches.

Well I've procrastinated long enough.  Time to stop walking around like a headless chicken and get some stuff done around here.
