I Wish I Could Write

I wish I could write . . . . .

words that leap off the page
and stay with you
long after being read

words that make you
laugh so hard
your belly aches

words  that make you
breakdown and cry
overwhelmed with emotion

words that reach
deep into your soul
so you know you're not alone

words that celebrate
life and the living
of everyday magic

words that ignite
raw passion
the fire in your blood

words that chew you up
 and spit you out
forever changed

words that invoke
a childlike state
of wonder and awe

words that energize
inspire action
set you on a beautiful adventure

but alas
my words have fallen
the way of dinosaurs

. . . . . I wish I could write

Questions Of Lies

facts on bloody fire
against action spread
circumstance my aversion
withheld memory my crime

let me confess
loathsome caresses walk
between the silence stitched awkwardness
and the questions of lies

The Beast (blackout poetry)

the beast
so much wretchedness
to describe or imagine
deep absence detested
the burden upon my soul
still my tormentor came
breathed terror
happiness disturbed

An Altered Mind

there's no magic in dry spells
in uncertainty and doubt
in tones of expectation
or in hues of drawing out

but in stroking the darkness
in the fear of letting go
embracing random chaos
in letting emotions flow

executing ideas
not by guillotine or gun
but through the touch of texture
in unravelling undone

emerging to dull echoes
of great suffering and pain
a mind altered of color
yet the shadows they remain

Dead Man Walking

stench of death tinged with breadth of life
tongues a warning of regret and grief
value measured in shades of grey
mourning rising each generation

dreams of color form ashen footsteps
with gait of choices on dusty road
to the vibrating pulse of a static heart
charred with remains of earthy memories

the subtle hues of light and dark
rich with allusion cast no shadow
for he is obscure, a shade of sunless
for he is the shadow, the dead man walking

A Bloody Conscience

there's blood on my conscience
not on my hands
still I gaze at them in disbelief

reliving grey fur blurred
under a break neck wheel
the thud of a wish not granted

stomach turned inside out
lurching towards speech
catching on the lump in my throat
before swallowing it back down

looking in the rear view mirror
at paws pointing the wrong way
I die a little inside

The Pulse Of Darkness

where the pulse of darkness
drums a splintered beat
between awareness and torment
pain
the breaker of rules
makes me feel everything
and nothing

while I stand here reeling
on the edge of emptiness
as black as the coal
my grandfather mined
the canary's song
long silenced
by shadows of fear's playground

and gazing into the abyss
a fissure of self
the moon's image holds me
as I wipe away tears
with the truth of its light

Evening's Edge

dragonflies dart by waters edge
the glistening of blue green hues
mirroring their iridescence
as though relative

while light shines on lifeless limbs
the sun showing no distinction
between the living and the dead
drawn only by the vast expanse
of continuous horizons

gliding through the evening depths
easing into letting go
of breath, of body, of mind
expanding ripples contort
everything of human form

Purple Hummingbirds

bright purple hummingbirds
mind manifested
swarm

until

punctured by pain
reality slips to reveal
a mind gone rogue

freaked out
panicked
I struggle to assemble
the distortion of perception
before hysteria engulfs me

I've never done recreational drugs but after a surgery I was given some narcotics.  While they did nothing for the pain they did make me hallucinate.  I know some people pay for the experience but all it did was freak me out.

Time

this is the poem that stands
in the still of time
unnerved
as others pass it by

this is the poem that rises
to the beat of seconds
discarded
in the every minute of every day

this is the poem that falls
through the layers
of yesterdays
and todays

this is the poem that turns
down into feathered wings
healing illusions
as it flies

Thirsting For Ink

our limbs are torn
our veins are sliced
and beaten to a pulp
water leaves its mark

submerged and drowned
pressed and bound
you'll find us thirsting
for a voice made of ink

Crow

an oil slick stains the sky
black the color of night
a dark void with no form

shape-shifting sands of time
past, present and future
the birthing of destiny

tarred in echoes of truth
beyond the illusions
of energy, of life

duality of right
reality of wrong
there's murder in the air

Nature's Assassin

aggressive mustached predator
nature's three-eyed assassin
robber in name and life
proboscis its rifle
neurotoxin bullet
paralyzed
liquefied

I Write

I write
to tether myself to this world
lest I float away

I write
to avoid so much introspection
I find myself inverted

I write
to cut pain from my soul
releasing fear and terror

I write
to spill my guts
so you may identify its contents

I write
to crack myself up
and put myself back together again

I write to
to ignite fires in bellies
starved of words

I write
to face the reality of today
punching unfairness into tomorrow

I write
to unwind the tightly coiled springs
of the bed I made

I write
to lose myself
so that I may find myself again

I write
to dislodge the iron mask
that hides the inner truth

I write
to capture memories
for my mind has storage issues

I write
to hold a candle flicker
to the dark crevices of my mind

I write
to free myself of the chains
anchoring me to the past

I write
to bandage gaping wounds
that identify me

I write
to see, to feel, to touch

. . . . . and so I write

Role Play

I fall into you
      each night a surprise
            never knowing what role I'll play . . . . .

hook in fear of the ticking clock
goldilocks in search of 'just right'
or perhaps the princess & the pea

                                    . . . . . if I'm unlucky, maybe all three

Linking up with dVerse where the prompt was to write about a common object.

The Game

This is the first poem I've written that isn't based on personal experience . . . . . .

a mind that's constantly in overdrive
as soft sweet whispers lead them deep inside
searching their eyes, as dusk turns into night
ignoring the truth, they'd prefer you lied
gagged and bound by a ridiculous wage
there was love once, you thought you were saved
laughing . . . what a gullible fool you made
a broken nose and a bloodied bruised face
too many questions by an anxious nurse
profusely sweating like a whore in church
thinking "this is bad", but it could get worse
praying they won’t look inside your purse
broken and unraveled you turn your back
“I’m done, I quit”, that’s all there is to that

Prompt: Over at dVerse they have us creating a Bout Rimes poem using the words drive, side, night, lied, wage, saved, made, face, nurse, church, worse, purse, back and that.

Rooted

my trunk is packed
but I remain
rooted to the spot
this time and place

creaking, groaning
twisting and moaning
as you breathe life
into these tired limbs

inevitably there will come
a point in time
pressure so intense
that SNAP, I break

Bared To You

try not to breathe
other people's love letters
on bullshit
they **** you up

there are no accidents just
tales of mystery and madness
bared to you
with my body

the probable future
fifty shades of grey
reflected in you
awesome

I Remember

memories of being kissed
gut like a clenched fist
or was it more like butterflies
the deceit, the lies
