Today I turn 40. These decade birthdays always seem to creep up on me in surprise . . . not in the good surprise kind of way but more the 'holy-cow-how-did-that-happen' way. I'm trying to embrace this passing of time, to look past my flaws and how my body is aging. To celebrate all that I've learnt and accomplished . . . but it's not easy.
You know you're getting old when . . . . .
the grey hairs start multiplying
body parts start migrating south
10.00 pm is past your bedtime
it looks like children are on the road driving
you're no longer asked for id
you think originals are better than remakes
you think originals are better than remakes
your medicine cabinet resembles a small pharmacy
fashion styles you wore decades ago come back around again
fashion styles you wore decades ago come back around again
you develop a love of blankets and bed socks
. . . . and the list goes on.
Happy Birthday, Kathryn!! 40! Wow, you are just a youngster. LOL Seriously, I remember my 40th birthday well and would love to still be there. Somehow, suddenly, I am 64 and my brain is still working like it's 40. One of these days my body is going to start screaming at me to slow down. LOL You have many wonderful fun years ahead of you. Enjoy!!! I hope you have a joyful day.

Happy birthday, my friend.
ReplyDeleteAs I look at your selfie, I realize you and I look very much alike and now I understand our connection better.
And hey -- 40 is the new 30. xo
Ha, yes a perfect description of how it feels. I am 55, and some days I feel every day of it. Cool and inventive image too!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I am nodding in recognition with everything on your list! Happy, happy birthday, I hope you had a wonderful day. I have passed the 4-0 mark and I had a really hard time with it, but honestly I am now really enjoying my 40s. You will too - and you're looking fabulous, love your selfie. :)
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy Birthday to you Kathryn! Hope you've caught up with your sleep and you're having a good day today.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated B.Day K. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful day :)
I really didn't care much about my age until I turned 50 then it hit me :(
So, you have plenty of time to feel young :)
Have a lovely weekend, cheers, T. :)
A very, very happy birthday Kathryn. That list made me laugh...I can relate! Here is hoping the next 40 are as creatively productive as the first!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! Sending you wishes for another decade filled with joy and creativity.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! I love your list. I'd add one piece -- when I turned 40, I felt like I was finally a grown-up, ready to just step into my life and not worry about what other people thought. But it might have taken me longer than normal to get there. :) Still, it was a good birthday for me. I hope yours was as well. xoxo lisa
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa . . . I think being ill with atypical facial neuralgia the past couple of years and then having a torn cartilage recently really hit me. Hoping that this next decade is a lot better. Here's hoping. :0)
